A sauna is an investment — not just in your wellbeing, but in your outdoor space.
When thoughtfully designed and positioned, a sauna becomes more than a standalone feature. It can elevate an outdoor area, create a sense of retreat at home, and add a layer of considered design to your property. It’s about how it sits within the landscape, how it feels to step into, and how naturally it becomes part of your routine.
But knowing where to begin can feel overwhelming.
That’s where we come in.
At The Tuki Sauna Co., we see choosing a sauna as a process — one we guide you through carefully. Not with a one-size-fits-all approach, but by helping you understand what will work best for your space, your lifestyle, and the way you want to use it.
Starting with the Right Questions
Rather than starting with models, we start with a few simple questions.
- Do you prefer a round or more architectural, cube-like shape?
- How many people do you want it to comfortably seat?
- Are you in an urban or rural setting?
- What is the climate like where you live?
- Do you want to incorporate a shower into the experience?
These questions help shape the direction. They’re not about narrowing things down too quickly, but about building a clearer picture of what your ideal setup looks like.
From there, we can guide you toward options that feel right — both practically and aesthetically.
Barrel vs Cube — Two Distinct Directions
Our range is centred around two main collections: Barrel and Cube.
The Barrel sauna was where we began. Its curved form is timeless and efficient, allowing heat to circulate naturally throughout the space. It can be crafted with a solid back wall for a more enclosed feel, or with a large plexiglass panoramic dome that opens the sauna up to its surroundings — creating a more immersive experience in nature.
The Cube collection came later, offering a more architectural profile with greater flexibility. While maintaining the same level of craftsmanship, the Cube range allows for more configuration — in size, layout, and features. Over time, it has grown into a collection that suits a wide variety of locations and preferences.
Neither is better — just different. And part of our role is helping you decide which direction aligns best with your space.
Finding the Right Size and Feel
Capacity is often the next consideration, but it’s less about numbers and more about how you want to use the space.
Our saunas range from three-person models through to larger formats that comfortably seat up to six.
For those wanting a more personal, quiet experience, something like the PureCube 550 offers a generous yet intimate space. There’s room to stretch out on the top bench, while still allowing for a couple of others to join when you feel like sharing it.
On the other hand, if you see your sauna as a place to gather, the larger models — such as the PureCube 580, Neptune, or Orion — create space for connection.
We often find that saunas become more than just a place to unwind. They naturally bring people together. Conversations tend to flow more easily, and there’s a simplicity to sitting side by side without distraction. Whether it’s quiet reflection or time with friends and family, the size you choose helps shape that experience.
Designing for Your Environment
Where your sauna sits plays a big role in how it feels.
In urban settings, the focus is often on privacy and integration. Our PureCube range works particularly well here — clean lines, compact footprints, and the ability to position it neatly alongside a house or boundary. For spaces that feel slightly exposed, we offer semi-privacy panels that provide shelter without fully closing things in.
In rural or more open landscapes, the approach tends to shift. Here, it’s about making the most of what surrounds you.
Models with larger glass panels allow the sauna to open outward — framing views, capturing light, and creating a stronger connection to the environment. Whether it’s looking out over a valley, towards water, or simply into a quieter piece of land, the experience becomes less inward and more expansive. This is where the Panoramic Barrel, Neptune, Orion and Hudson models offer so much.
Performance in Different Climates
Climate is another important factor, particularly here in New Zealand where conditions can vary significantly.
For colder regions or more exposed sites, we offer the option to insulate selected models — including the Neptune, Orion, and Hudson.
This insulation is made from 8cm EPS foam and is integrated into the floors, walls, and roof, delivering an R rating of 11.25 — an exceptionally high level of thermal performance. When paired with 6mm bronze tempered double-glazed glass panels, it significantly improves heat retention and overall efficiency.
The result is a sauna that heats more effectively, holds temperature for longer, and performs consistently even in cooler conditions.
It’s not always necessary — but when it is, it makes a noticeable difference.
Adding to the Ritual
For some, the sauna extends beyond the heat itself.
A shower adds another layer to the experience — whether it’s cooling off between sessions or rinsing off at the end. Used in between rounds, a cold shower becomes part of the process. It helps bring your body temperature down, improves circulation, and allows you to step back into the heat feeling refreshed rather than fatigued. It’s a simple way to incorporate cold therapy without needing a separate plunge.
For many, it naturally becomes something you use more often than expected. Taking your daily shower outside is one of those small shifts that makes the space feel even more considered. It turns a routine into something you actually look forward to, and makes better use of what you’ve created.
A Considered Outcome
Ultimately, there’s no single “right” sauna — only what’s right for you.
Our range is intentionally broad:
big or small, round or cube, private or open, insulated or uninsulated, with a shower or without.
What matters is how it comes together.
We take pride in offering a genuinely personal service, working closely with each client to shape a sauna that fits seamlessly into their lifestyle and their space. Not by pushing a particular model, but by guiding the process — step by step — until it feels right.
Because when it’s done well, a sauna doesn’t just sit in your space.
It becomes part of it.
